Polydimensionality.
This makes me happy.
Though, I think it would be interesting to explore not only the dimensions between our existing ones, but also the ones between eachother, which may or may not exist.

Re: Polydimensionality.
The point is not that you are exploring new dimensions. You would not be able to travel into these dimensions but you would be harnessing and "exploring" the forces of these dimensions.

Re: Polydimensionality.
Do not confuse space time four dimensional physics, or higher dimensional spaces like the proposed 6D and 8D, with alternate realities/parallel worlds. How dimension every came to mean alternate realit is beyond me, but the terminology was an invention of science fiction that has no relation to science fact.

They have a link from slashdot.org pointing to your blog for this story as a backup I guess. Web pages slashdot.org links to have a tendacy of dying.

Um, no, you need a new scientist subscription to read the article otherwise. ;)

In the comments on /., which is how I got here (someone replied to my post with a link), not on the front page.

If the link had been FP, I suspect all of LJ would have come to a screeching halt.

Interesting.

About every 10 years, this seems to come up on the fringes of science. I'm not saying it's impossible, and quite frankly, I hope it's true...but I'm not holding my breath, either.

If not for the particle mass measurements the guy predicted I wouldn't be very excited.

Hyper-drive
It may come up every ten years...yet it has never been experimented with. As most know, strange science that bucks known science is scary to the world of scientists. Clearly, hyper-drive (the theory) is unproven, yet it will only be proven wrong or right with a proper experiment.

The mere fact that Dr. Heim successfully proved the order of predicting a particle's mass tells me that there is something VERY important here. He may end up being known as the father of "hyper drive" and intersellar travel. Which would clearly change the course of human evolution.

Yet the theorem has proved surprisingly powerful. The standard model of physics, which is generally accepted as the best available theory of elementary particles, is incapable of predicting a particle's mass. Even the accepted means of estimating mass theoretically, known as lattice quantum chromodynamics, only gets to between 1 and 10 per cent of the experimental values.
Gravity reduction

But in 1982, when researchers at the German Electron Synchrotron (DESY) in Hamburg implemented Heim's mass theorem in a computer program, it predicted masses of fundamental particles that matched the measured values to within the accuracy of experimental error. If they are let down by anything, it is the precision to which we know the values of the fundamental constants. Two years after Heim's death in 2001, his long-term collaborator Illobrand von Ludwiger calculated the mass formula using a more accurate gravitational constant. "The masses came out even more precise," he says.

Thing is, Tesla came up with a lot of this kinda stuff back in the late 1800's. This is the man who invented Alternating Current and laid a lot of the basics of electromagnetics down. He even had a 'flying machine' powered solely by electromagnetism effects (not the 'lifter' effect either; most likely a developed form of this 'anti-gravity'). The US Govt even interviewed him about it with a view to developing this tech for their aircraft. It's all been pretty much relegated to the fringes of modern science, but from my own brief soiree into the area, whilst there is a lot of bullshit out there, there's too much smoke for there not to be any fire.
We shall see, I presume.

Congrats, you've been Slashdotted.

I wonder if this is any relation to the Biefeld-Brown effect. UFO nuts have been talking about how there "must be" a gravitational component to it for a while now.

Also, you're really cute.

Well hell yeah niggas, i joined the air force with an asvab score of 90. I needed a 70 to get a Top Secret (Yankee White) clearence, and im gonna be working on spacelift boosters just for starters and I aint even 20 yet. See you at Zeta Reticuli, or bungtabulon 6. Makes me kinda happy I got into Microsoft Space Simulator as a lad. Carry on.

B2 Bomber and the perception of reality
The B2 bomber already does this. Just read the book, "Hunt for 0 Point." If you don't believe the book, get your hands on the alloy that wraps around the hull of the bomber. If you don't have clearance ? Then go ask a pilot yourself.

The government is notorious for leaking technologies in the form of grants and contests. My thought is that they are just looking for cheaper alternatives whcih they know private companies can provide. What scares me is that this is all technology proposed in the 60's.

i hate how everyone refers to "the government" our gov is so separated and bickering that its amazing anything is able to be kept secret and if it is its only by one part like the cia or somthing not "the government" and think about it how many people would it take to cover up somthing like this or alains or any one of a thousand conspiracy theories anyway along the same lines we are going to blow ourselfs up before we get anywere it it does my heart good so see a genereal chain of quantum learning that can be traced years back up to this kinda debunking the idea of "the government" backwards engineering a ufo

our future is our past
people laughed when a people in the past said we wuld fall off the world at the other end or that we would never go into space or even go to the bottom of the seas. what does it take for people to understand that what we dont know does not mean it can not happen. just like cold fusion, we can control the beast, but will the beast control us ! We have to move carefully with this new Tech.

There's something going on here
It would either seem as though the government already knows more than they are saying or they have insights into multi-dimensional space that they are truly interested in investing in. There will be a satellite going up in 2007 that will be trying to find mini black holes within the solar system. Normally, for their size, they should have radiated out into space billions of years ago. If, however there are multi dimensions to our universe, these black holes should continue to exist due to the nature of time in the fourth spatial dimension. Time should react differently in the fourth to gravity, allowing for a longer existance. Please read story here: http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn9240-satellite-could-open-door-on-extra-dimension.html
